About Us: News for 2005
December 29, 2005 (AM)-You know, sometimes...
"A bird in the hand" is not always worth as much as "two in the bush."
Anyway you look at it ... THEY SURE DIDN'T STAY IN THE BUSH FOR LONG Note from Kevin: Yes, I very much enjoyed those "LDDS" days of mine. And, it's been a while, but I'm glad and quite excited to say, I'm getting close to being able to re-live some of them. 'In some ways, anyway. Phrase: A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush Usual Meaning: It's better to have something small and reliable than something big and risky. Possible Origin: The same sentiment comes from the Bible, Old Testament, Ecclesiastes ix - A living dog is better than a dead lion. I've never lived 100% by this, and although it can sure be tempting... don't plan to start. Yes, there's much to be said for being safe, but there are times when you've got to go for just a bit more. MERRY CHRISTMAS! Note from Kevin: We are having a great time getting ready for Santa's big visit! [Post a Reply to this Note] [Top of Page] December 14, 2005 (AM)-The critics' reviews are out!! And, as always...
Note from Kevin: Kim and I are planing on seeing this one this coming weekend, and hopefully, we'll agree it's okay for Quinn to see. He is so excited about seeing this movie... We'll see. [Post a Reply to this Note] [Top of Page] September 30, 2005 (PM)-We had a great family trip this weekend... Note from Kevin: Friday evening, we drove to Greenwood, MS and had a wonderful stay at The Alluvian - about half way to Memphis. We had two queen beds - Kim and Kacy in one, Kevin and Quinn in the other. We all slept like babies. After an exquisite breakfast - delicious - we left the next day and arrived in Memphis at the airshow around 14:15 or so. We sat on the front row in the FedEx "Grand Marshall" area!! and were only feet away from the air strip, AND the six Blue Angels jets! We enjoyed watching all types of airplanes and jets, and were treated to a great Blue Angels performance at 15:00! They flew just a few feet above the FedEx Grand Marshall area, TWICE! Then, we got to explore the big jets... And Quinn We really enjoyed it - especially the FedEx A300 - just like his, at home! We then drove to Germantown and stayed at a very nice hotel, there - name escapes me at this time... We had a great Pizza dinner, went all through the big mall, and then back to the Hotel. We watched "Herbie" (the LoveBug) before bed, and had a fun time. After breakfast, we went swimming in their huge, beautiful pool! Oh, we had a blast in the pool with our kids!! They just had an incredible time. And I was just incredibly impressed by Kim, and how she was working with the kids in the water! Oh, you'd think she was a swimming instructor - I'm serious - VERY impressive! Then, we checked out, had lunch at Back Yard Burger... And experienced the "Fighter Pilot" IMAX at the Pink Palace! Our kids were totally taken away by the movie! They were glued to the screen!! We even treated Quinn to a F-15e he found in the gift shop. Kacy got divinity... And we arrived back home around 18:00. Our Honda Odyssey EX impressed us, averaging 28 mpg for the trip! 'A really fun trip, and a great weekend for our family. [Post a Reply to this Note] [Top of Page] September 17, 2005 (PM)-Have you ever fallen in love? Note from Kevin: Again!! Kim and I had another blast! This movie is a romantic movie, but is also fun! It's a really, really good movie. Again... If you can, go as a boy+girl couple. in December of 1995... AT WORLDCOM Note from Kevin: Well, at that time, I had WorldCom making me happy; that was pretty much my life. Yes, I kicked some ass while I was there, and so did Bernie Ebbers. Maybe he did some wrong things. Sure, he might have done some wrong things in his career, but Scott Sulkivan is the one that should have gotten the 25 years, not 5! 'What a bad damn joke. Well, I'm still having a blast at my current workplace, but I've now got happiness in my life that is truly undescribable! Maybe I deserve it, maybe I'm just lucky, maybe a bit of both... Any way I look at it, I've been blessed with the lovely Kimberly S. Smith, and our two incredikids, Quinn and Kacy! Us, as a team, and as a family, is just beautiful. Note from Kevin: Yes, the system is now almost 100% in place to allow you a Free Credit Report from Trans Union, Experian, and Equifax. All that's left to come up is the New ERngland area and the US Territories. Getting your scores will still cost you a few dollars, but it's a good idea to watch your 3 credit scores. As you can see, I'm watching mine! [Post a Reply to this Note] [Top of Page] July 04, 2005 (PM)-King Kong is coming back... Note from Kevin: Quinn is now turning into KONG every now and then... ever since he saw the KING KONG 2005 Trailer! He'll roar and then - hunched over a bit - sling a truck accross to room! Watch it and you should get a feel for what's coming this Christmas! and TURN UP YOUR COMPUTER'S VOLUME!! [Post a Reply to this Note] [Top of Page] June 18, 2005 (PM)-Batman Begins!
and he is off... WITH A BLAST! Note from Kevin: Batman Begins is a great movie! This one is one of those "good enough to sneak food into" movies. Tonight, Kim's orange purse proved it's perfect for doing just that!! We had a really good time at Parkway Place Cinema, and I can't wait for Quinn to see this movie. He's going to go NUTS! over the bats ands the Tumbler... Batman Begins focuses on the Caped Crusader's early years as a crime fighter in Gotham City, but most important of all these changes is a subject close to the hearts of every Batman fan: the screeching grunt of his road destroying vehicle, the Batmobile. This ridiculously extravagant and beastly automobile is justified in the story by the following explanation: designed as a military vehicle by the Applied Sciences division of Wayne Enterprises, the Tumbler, as it was originally called, was intended to aid in building temporary bridging devices to carry troops and supplies over water and vast open space. Due to its expense, Wayne Enterprises never mass-produced the vehicle, but upon Bruce Wayne's discovery of the prototype he maximized its stealth design and extraordinary applications to become a powerful weapon in Batman's quest for justice. We're looking forward to some better weather! [Post a Reply to this Note] [Top of Page] March 01, 2005 (22:25 CT)-The flu has hit the Crothers... Note from Kevin: We're sick. Our family - and I do mean all 4 of us - has the flu. We have 100º-104º fever, running noses, watery eyes, aching bodies, headaches, sore throats, very uneasy stomachs, and are very, very tired... And Quinn and I have the most vicious cough. It's dry and painful, and when it gets started, we can't even catch our breath. I'm afraid to go to sleep, again, unless I can figure out how to sleep standing up. I have Quinn asleep on the couch, and I'm watching him, making sure he does not relax his sleeping position - 45º head-up angle and ~30º down from his feet to his knees. Kim is sitting at her computer (next to me) and she just whispered, "... I think my glands are swollen." Adults may be able to infect others 1 day before getting symptoms and up to 7 days after getting sick. So it is possible to give someone the flu before you know you're sick as well as while you are sick. This picture was taken with my SideKick II, but the film.... Oh, my goodness, is that a film. [Post a Reply to this Note] [Top of Page] January 22, 2005 (PM)-The Natchez Trace is complete - from Ridgeland to just beneath Clinton!
We drove it, then saw the... SOUTH END'S SIGN Note from Kevin: Kevin, Kim, Quinn, and Kacy drove their HONDA Odyssey down the Natchez Trace from Ridgeland to just beneath Clinton ... The North End (Ridgeland) was an open passage to us - No DO NOT ENTER sign. We didn't pass or were we passed by ONE other car or motorcycle - the entire way. It was a pretty drive. 'Strange the South End's sign was positioned just before you pass through Clinton, MS... [Post a Reply to this Note] [Top of Page] January 22, 2005 (AM)-Kevin and Quinn worked with Paul this morning and got cut up a bit... Quinn, Kevin and Paul George worked to get... QUINN THIS BANDAID Note from Kevin: We made really good progress working on the Madison Landing border of Harbortowne... REALLY Good Progress! And, we found the corner pin for lot 5. [Post a Reply to this Note] [Top of Page] January 09, 2005 (PM)-Kevin and Quinn got locked out of Jackson's Train Station!
Quinn's and Kevin's Adventure Started at... THE AMTRAK ENGINE Note from Kevin: Quinn and I took this picture with my Sidekick II. Kim, Kacy, Quinn and I drove down to the station in our van, and while Kim was feeding Kacy in the van, Quinn and I ventured up top of the Jackson Train Station. We walked all the way down to the right to get a look at the Amtrak engine. Well, it was to depart, headed to Chicago at 17:44, and it was already 17:32. So, we waited to see if we could watch it take off. It sounded its horns and almost busted our eardrums!! We had to hold our ears!! Then, it took off and accelerated very quickly! We watched it disappear, and then as we were walking back to the doors to walk down the steps of the station... We found them to be locked, and no other person was anywhere to be seen or heard! Well, as we were looking around to find a way down from there, we saw three very bright lights coming from our left. A FREIGHT TRAIN!!! The conductor waived to Quinn out his window - out the window of the 1st of TWO ENGINES! Quinn waived back, and just as we saw the conductor smile, he blew his horns for Quinn! TWICE!! Those horns almost knocked us off our feet! There were at least 100 freight cars being pulled by those two engines. It was a sight. Well, all of a sudden, this high-pitched clatter started coming toward us, and as it got closer, it got louder, and louder! It was coming from an - almost - empty freight car, and whatever was in made a heck of a lot of noise!! My goodness, it was almost painful to our ears, and we were holding them as tight as we could! Well, after that second train pass, we were faced with how to get down. We crossed the tracks and tried the center cabin's elevator, but it would not come up to us. So, we started off the block and down the tracks. We had to walk about 1/3 - 1/2 mile, even passed what Quinn called a mountain! and then we climbed down a hill into some thick brush and then out into a lot and to the street. I have to tell you, it was a bit scary! Quinn was just incredible!!!! He was having a blast; we were BOTH having a blast. We ran all the way to the van, and we really ran. It was dark and spooky out there on that street. [Post a Reply to this Note] [Top of Page] January 09, 2005 (PM)-Kevin and Quinn watched the downhill skateboarder competition...
and Thanks to - the infamous - Tate Nations... WERE CAUGHT ON FILM Note from Kevin: The skateboarders Zoomed by us in the parking lot that is beside our neighborhood - just below Old Trace Park, and some of them slid by us, and some of them TUMBLED by us!!! They were fantastic, and very nice - all of them. Tate seemed to be running the show and must have gotten some incredible pictures. Quinn and I did help re-position some of the cones, though! We had a blast. Then Kim, Kacy, Quinn and me toured some of the houses being built in our neighborhood, and Quinn rode all around on MY SKATEBOARD! even inside the houses!
